Loongson, formerly Godson is a universal CPU launched by the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, through some of their own design, some of the patents licensing.Loongson-1 use reduced instruction set computing, similar to the MIPS instruction set. The speed of the first type is 266MHz, in the first started in Octber 13, 2002.
Loongson-2 has the highest speed of 1GHz. Godson-3 was launched in the fall of 2008, targeting the multi-core design.
At present, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has research program of supercomputer which uses Loongson processor.
