The Chinese Wikipedia is the Chinese language edition of Wikipedia, run by the Wikimedia Foundation. Started on October 24, 2002.
Up to 7:10 p.m. on October 23, 2008, the Chinese Wikipedia has 208,122 entries. There are also other Chinese dialects version, including Taiwanese Wikipedia, Cantonese Wikipedia, Classical Chinese Wikipedia, Wu Wikipedia, Fujian Wikipedia, Jiangxi Wikipedia, Hakka Wikipedia and so on.
By now, Chinese Wikipedia has been the third largest online Chinese encyclopedia after Hoodong and Baidu Baike.

Yangpu Bridge was Opened to Traffic
The Yangpu Bridge in Shanghai, China, is among the world's longest bridges, with a total length of 8,354 meters. Its longest span of 602 m makes it the fourth largest cable-stayed bridge in the world. It carries the Inner Ring Road from the Yangpu District in Puxi to the Pudong New Area. It was completed in September 1993 and opened in October 23.
The bridge was designed by the Shanghai Municipal Engineering Design Institute, Shanghai Urban Construction College, and Shanghai Urban Construction Design Institute, with assistance from Holger S. Svensson. It was built by the Shanghai Huangpujiang Bridge Engineering Construction company.
Its two pylons reach 223 m in height. The highest ship clearance is 48 m, a necessity due to the heavy river traffic.
The bridge was originally unpainted; then it was coated with red paint for the millennium. The name Yangpu Bridge inscribed on each pylon was originally hand-written by Deng Xiaoping.

China to Increase Export Tax Rebate from Nov.
Approved by the State Council of China, the Ministry of Finance and the State Administration of Taxation announced on the 21st, increase export tax rebate rate on labor-intensive, high-tech and high value-added goods industry from November 1, 2008.
The export tax rebate rate adjustment is related to a total of 3486 products, about 25.8 percent of the total goods should be tariffed. There are two aspects: First, an appropriate increase of the export tax rebate on labor-intensive industry, such as ratein textiles, clothing, toys and other goods; the second is high-tech and high value-added goods industry, for example, anti-AIDS drugs.
After the adjustment, China's export tax rebate rate will be six levels: 5%, 9%, 11%, 13%, 14% and 17%.
The adjustments include: Increse the export tax rebate rate of some of the textiles, clothing, toys to 14%; art and daily-use ceramics to 11%; Some plastic products to 9%; part of the furniture to 11% or 13%; AIDS drug, recombinant human insulin freeze-dried powder, yellow collagen, toughened glass, tantalum wire for capacitors, ship cable, sewing machines, fans, hard alloy knives for CNC machine to 9% , 11%, 13%.

AU Optronics Forces Employees on Leave
Recently, a manager of AU Optronics Corp., said that following the reduction in the 3rd-quarter, the company has notified some of the employees should be on annual leave.
The manager said the company does not plan to lay off employees or reduce wages. China Launched China DDN
October 22, 1994, the China Digital Data Network (China DDN) was opened formally.

Yahoo to Lay Off 1,500 Employees
On Tuesday, Yahoo announced third-quarter fiscal report. The net profit of Yahoo fell 64%, compared with the last year. Yahoo is expected to lay off worldwide staff at least 10% in the fourth quarter, that is 1,500 employees.
This is the second time large-scale layoffs in the last 9 months, because the decline in the overall economic growth made the third quarter net profit fell. The investors stew over a missed opportunity to sell to Microsoft Corp. for $47.5 billion.
Yahoo felt the squeeze in the third quarter as the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company earned $54.3 million, or 4 cents per share. That was a plunge of 64 percent from $151.3 million, or 11 cents per share, at the same time last year.

For example, compared with last year, prices of the glass raw materials increased by 35% to 40%. Russian halogenated butyl rubber prices almost doubled, now offer 5,100 to 5,500 US dollars / ton, and a very tight supply. The prices of halogenated butyl rubber offered from Exxon and Lanxess rose an average of 25% to 30%, to 4,5000 US dollars / ton.

Yahoo may Announce a Large-scale Layoff on Wednesday
According to foreign media reports, sources said Yahoo will announce a large-scale layoff on Wednesday, the number of the employees is expected to 3,000.

Lenovo's a New Round of Layoff
On Friday, the world's fourth largest PC manufacturer Lenovo announced as a part of the world's layoffs, the global headquarters which is located in Morrisville, North Carolina will lay off about 50 employees.
Ray Gorman, the spokesman of Lenovo said the job cuts is a part of company global restructuring plan, job cuts will be carried out from now on to the end of this year. The headquarters of Lenovo in Morrisville has about 1,680 employees, but Goldman said Lenovo is building the third integrated office building in this region and is expected to be put into use before the end of the year.
As for the number of job cuts in the other regions of the world, Goldman declined to provide specific figures. He said that Lenovo is already implementing some reorganization plan, which is entirely due to the current situation of economy. Layoffs will be carried out in some specific area.
